Celebration of uncovering the boat

Yes, it's true!  We have taken the cockpit and bow covers off the boat and left the cabin still covered for tentative rain and to allow us to work on insulating the refrigerator.

Fun with the Bunnies

Easter is always a busy, but fun time at our house.  We usually bring one bunny at a time into the house to cuddle.  We notice that each time we do this Pixie wants to play too.  Here is Pixie playing with Charlotte while she is out of her cage. 

                                                                                                                                                                       
Early last week we began to notice that Pixie had a hard area on her lower lip and when we tried to explore further she pulled away.  Sue had her on her lap the next day and the area appeared to be growing larger and more distinctly hard.  She held Pix while I felt this area.  We both immediately thought it was her melanoma coming back and at the same area on her right side of her face.  We called the oncology vet. in West Chester for an appointment.  Days passed since it was the weekend, and our Pixie was unable to open her mouth on the right side.  Both Sue and I were very upset about this and didn't sleep most of Sunday night in preparation to going to the examination on Monday.  Tears flowed on the way and we shuddered at the thought of more radiation for poor Pix or even worst.  Dr. Vicki Nelson took Pixie into one of the examination rooms and talked to us about her progress since last November.  She didn't feel it looked like a cancer, but she wanted to do some tests to be sure. After waiting for two hours our little girl appeared with her tail wagging and a happy look on her face.  Vicki told us it was cellulitis, a common infection of the skin and the soft tissues underneath and had given her a shot of antibiotics to help this heal. We have been applying hot/warm compresses to Pixie's right side, continued with the medicine and have noticed in the last day she is able to open her mouth to eat and smile. We'll keep you up-to-date as this episode unravels.

Have you ever heard of a dog taking a cat nap?

The weather for the month of January has not been unreasonable.  We have had mostly above freezing conditions during most of the days this month.  As we move into February, we should see colder weather with some snow that will lie around for awhile.  The snowfall in January couldn't have been better.  With an opportunity of maybe at the most 2 inches during the month. We were threatened with up to 12" + last Monday (26th) and we nary got an inch.  It was lovely seeing a couple of feet land in New York and above.  Can't even fathom the snowfall Maine received. 
Anyone asking about our Pixie... we're happy to say she is well and very lovable!  She knows the time for snackies (about 9:30-10 PM) and we rush to the kitchen to spoil her.  We have re-immortalized the red rubber plaything she adored many years ago.  We fill it with a couple of her tasty snacks and roll it toward her.  She'll slobber all over it until those two candies drop into her mouth and then it's time to gather some more. Sometime last November Pixie became a late riser so we usually wait until 9 or so in the morning to wake her.  When we get up, one of us takes a article of clothing and covers her with it to keep the light from her eyes and to have her feel a closeness to us.  Our little girl is feeling fine and we are so happy to have her with us!

Silent Night

It was a truly wonderful evening singing Christmas Carols and hearing Pastor Kathi Busch talking to the kids in their pajamas while they ate cookies and sipped milk.  If you look closely, our granddaughter Savannah is sitting on the sofa on Pastor Kathi's left listening to the message.

As 2014 Christmas Approaches

Our granddaughter Savannah has been singing "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth" since  December 1st.

Not an easy picture to identify those missing  teeth, but they're her upper incisors right in the front.









Our Pixie has been so lovable lately curling up in both Sue's lap and on me. 

If you look closely, you can see her "skin only area" on the right front of her face.

Many times a day we find ourselves checking on Pixie to see if she is sleeping or wants to "go outside".  She appears to be saying that she doesn't want any additional treatment and to be perfectly honest: "just keep my water dish filled and make sure I have some snackies before I go to bed."


I'm sure many of you have tried to reply below in the comments section, but we know that it isn't easy.

Pixie Update

It was haircut time for the Pix 'cause Mommy was saying she is beginning to look like a slight sheep. Well I did agree and neither of us remembered Pixie's last haircut.

 Usually I like to trim her on the side porch so we can sweep her ample hair to the ground and the birds love to pick it up for their nests. But with cooler weather and rain, I brought a piece of plywood into the downstairs bathroom to help complete the chore.
